I’m learning to drive and I’m driving on a quiet country road before venturing out onto the main roads to build up my confidence.
It’s my 4th driving lesson and as everyone knows there’s so much to remember when learning to drive that you forget the basics like braking.
I had a funny moment the other day, my hubby took me out quite late at night on the quiet country road and he taught me how to use the high beam to flash it on to take a quick look up a very dark lane.
I was driving along happily, I got the hang of flashing the light to see if anything was ahead, I was so proud of myself, until a rabbit jumped out in front of me and instead of breaking I flashed my lights at it and indicated right, luckily the rabbit could easily out run me, since a snail could pass me at the moment, so the rabbit was in no real danger
It’s funny the things you do when your learning to drive. On my second lesson a rabbit jumped out into the road ahead of me, I remember first panic then I remembered that if an animal jumps out on you, that you are to run it over rather than swerve and cause an accident, so instead of slowing down I sped up!
I slowed down again straight after and told my hubby what had just gone through my mind, he laughed and said it’s not mandatory to kill an animal that jumps out on me and that slowing down the car is a much better idea than speeding up to kill it
The rabbit was way out in front of me and when I say I sped up it was more like going from 10mph to 13mph, again the rabbits can easily get out my way.
Actually it’s kinda embarrassing when they run up the grass verge at the side of the road and leave me way behind, I feel sure they are laughing at me from behind the hedges, I know I would
It’s so difficult though to know the difference between speeding up and slowing down when you first learn to drive and it was only my second time in the car.
If you have any stories about when you was learning to drive please leave a comment below, it nice not to feel alone.
