My son has just got a retainer for his teeth and it was really making him miserable 
, the fit was a little tight and it was upsetting him, he couldn’t eat and it was making his mouth soar.
My hubby decided to cheer my son up with a joke, he disappeared from the room and came back with a hanging basket over his face and Said to my son “I think the dentist fitted the me with the wrong brace” he disappeared again to come back into the room with our shiny new sink covering his face and said “Now it’s OK , he’s fitted me the right one”.
It put a well needed smile on my sons face.
My hubby later on bent the front metal of the retainer where it was hurting my son a little and now he feels no pain at all 
The retainer is a bit plate it’s not meant to move my sons teeth just to alter my sons bite so it’s not so deep, stopping my sons font teeth touch the roof of his mouth. He’s now happy and the bite plate is working, there’s a gap developing and his teeth no longer touch the roof of his mouth behind his incisors.
It’s all good, dad saved the day.
