Some local good news in my area for 2010, Natureland Seal Sanctuary have had a new arrival in the form of a baby penguin :-) . There hasn’t been a penguin birth at the Sanctuary in 15 years.

Penguin Chick

Two eggs were laid but only one hatched, previous years the eggs had been unfertilized this is the first time Pip and Pepsi have hatched a chick and the new parents are doing a great job by themselves at rearing their new baby, the cold weather meant staff considered hand-rearing the chick, but its parents proved very protective and are looking after the chick themselves.

Good for them humans interfere to much in the rearing of animals and as Pip and Pepsi have proven it’s not necessary for human interference.

Way to go Penguins :-)
